i really don't know what to make of this. i feel like we (and i mean "we" in the global sense) should be addressing the fact that there are folks out there who are digging through trash cans looking for food out of economic necessity -- vs. doing so to make a statement.

"Dear CRC alum,

Radiothon, as you may remember, is 48 hours of radio, fundraising, game shows, parties and other philanthropic activities put on by CRC in the last week of Fall Quarter. Now in its 18th year, Radiothon will be held from Tuesday, Nov. 29 to Thursday, Dec. 1. The theme is "A Classy Affair."

As always, we will be running WXRU 640 AM for 48 hours straight. Fans outside the dorm can listen to www.wxru.com.

Would you consider supporting Radiothon 18 with a monetary donation? As always, half of the Radiothon donations will go to the American Heart Association, and the other half to the William G. Arnold Memorial Fund, which funds equipment upgrades and maintenance in CRC.

Last year's Radiothon earned $4,127.78. With your support, we'd like to do even better this year. With regard to equipment, we've been hard at work with massive upgrades for the dorm. Last winter, we spent $5,000 outfitting our screening room with a DLP projector, THX receiver and movie theater-quality surround sound speakers. This month, we put $2,500 into upgrading WXRU with a digital soundboard and a new iMac for recording and streaming online.

In other news, things are going great in CRC. Roger Boye returned in 2003 for his second stint as faculty master. All this week, alums Stephanie D'Abruzzo and Craig Shemin will be visiting the dorm and conducting talks and firesides. Panquake, Illumihinman, Sunday night ACM's and lots of other traditions are still going strong.

OK, the Jack/Shuffle/Play Anything radio phenomenon has officially gone too far. In a 10-minute span, I heard Duran Duran's "Rio" on Nine-FM, 104.3 Jack-FM and Q101. And the next morning (yesterday), I heard it again on The Mix, while "Hungry Like The Wolf" was on Jack-FM, to boot. And if I hear Frankie Goes To Hollywood one more time on Q101, I'm going to drive off the road into a ditch.

If I'm just going to hear the same songs over and over again, can we go back to when it was new stuff, at least?

Hate to say it...

... but I'm kinda glad I moved out of Texas.

Even after five-ish years of Cowboy Georgie, I've never been ashamed to be a Texan. Until now.

Hear hear. And that's why we look upon the memories with such fondness and our present situation with something between dismay and exhiliration. College is what brought us together (for what its worth, case-by-case basis). And what Northwestern hath wrought, a sense of shared history brings together and diverging life-paths tears apart. Such is life. And life doesn't let you play footballl at 2am anymore.

Man, we ran shit back in the day. And we shall continue.

He's opened his heart to Oprah Winfrey. His name has been the butt of a Top 10 list on David Letterman. And like every other senator, he has shared his ideas with C-Span.

Never before, though, has Sen. Barack Obama genuflected on the hottest altar of political comedy: "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart."

But the junior Democratic senator from Illinois has accepted an invitation to appear on the Comedy Central program next week, show spokeswoman Renata Luczak told the Tribune. It will be broadcast Monday at 10 p.m. in Chicago and repeated three more times.

Politicians of all stripes eagerly await their chance to sit on the couch of "The Daily Show." Obama was first invited more than a year ago after he won his Senate race. But he did not agree to do the show in New York until now."
