dillo day news, courtesy of nu's alumni association

"Dear Alumni,

Many of you may be planning to return to campus for Dillo Day. This year there are some changes.

Instead of Memorial Day Weekend, Dillo Day is May 31 this year. We know that some of you enjoy returning for the event and didn't want you to make the trip on the wrong weekend. The line up of bands is the best ever. We are very excited. The line up so far includes Common and Tedd Leo and the Pharmacists.

Also of important note is the construction that has happened on campus in the last twelve months. We are experiencing a construction boom and most of it by the lake front. On the recreation fields on the north end of campus (the usual site of Dillo Day) is now a wonderful Soccer/Lacrosse stadium. What this means for the concert, is a shift in venue. The concert will now take place on a new recreation field, a much smaller space, to the south (closer to the lagoon) and necessitates the closing of multiple parking lots by the Allen Center, Pancoe and Cook. What this means for you is that the entry points to Dillo Day are now at SPAC and at the Allen Center.

The university has worked hard in the last five years to make Dillo Day a safe, fun annual tradition that allows every student at Northwestern to have a relaxing, safe Dillo Day. We ask that if you choose to return to campus to celebrate spring with us that you also respect the changes we have made and enjoy the day with us.

Five Bands, One Day
Play Smart!"

(y'know, of all the myriad things i've gone back to campus for since graduation, dillo day has never really crossed my mind. i wonder how many alumni tend to show up.)

Archives

EDIT: More pix up in a set here. I can't find my book from sophomore and junior year. I think it's in storage. Hopefully I'll find it as soon as we get out of school.

In following my uncle and father's footsteps, I have started scanning old family photos to Flickr. My hope is to do what my dad and uncle have done and label and organize them all before people forget the details. You all are not safe from this process. So seeing as how I've finished my box of family photos and have not yet moved on to my family's boxes, I've started on my old photos of all of you. I've done my best to pick out some of my favorites. Unfortunately some of my true favorites deal with a great deal of the dormcest and its various permutations. So, I've attempted to pick out good pictures without having too many embarrassing ones. If you ask nicely, though, I can scan those in and e-mail them to you :) Anyway, here's the first round. More eventually probably on nights like tonight when I'm on duty and have to stay up late anyway. (please help me label)

Don't blame me...

...I voted for Kodos.

And so ends my relevance in the political process. Come November, this friggin' state will go 60 percent for McCain even if he eats three small children and a baby panda on live television every day for the next five months.

And he might.

I'm in a book

No lie!

A while back the guys from the Weird U.S. book series e-mailed me via my Flickr account and wanted to know if they could use my pictures from Gary's abandoned train station in their Weird Indiana book. They weren't sure they'd use them, but they'd like the permission. I was like, really? I took those quickly with a shitty camera. It was more documentation. But anyway, I hadn't thought much about it again until today when I got a copy of the book in the mail and sure enough page 233 three of the four pix are mine! My name isn't listed on the page, just in the credits in the back. And, no, despite dad's disappointment, all I got was a copy of the book. But this is really cool!

All Shook Up

Oh, man, am I jealous of you guys. I've always wanted to feel an earthquake. No, seriously. What was it like?

Ouch.

One of my students was heading down the stairs today and said, "Hi, Kim," to my mom.
