There are twelve handicapped parking spaces in front of Target.

Twelve.

And each is, in fact, two spots wide, of course. So that means there are essentially twenty-four off-limits spots in front of Target..

That seems, well, a lot. Especially when it's an empty lot and it's pouring out.

Do they think we're in South Florida or something?

Late to the party as always, I just learned that the White Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1918. I'm betting some of y'all are celebrating, right?

Do you know what day it is?

Of course, it is Day One of being World Champions.

But it is also a birthday. A birthday of the man whose big words, solid presence, and sense of timing has endeared him to all. A man who was my only roomate in college, and who I managed to keep in touch with afterwards because he's just that cool.

"'Muppets' May Return to Primetime TV

LOS ANGELES -- The Muppets could come back to primetime television with their own reality show. ABC has ordered a script and five episode outlines for "America's Next Muppet," in which viewers may join in choosing the newest member of the puppet family that includes Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, a network spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The premise has the ring of such shows as "American Idol" or "America's Next Top Model," in which the audience picks potential new stars.

ABC is part of the Walt Disney Co., which purchased the Muppets franchise from the Jim Henson Co. in 2004 and the right to use the characters in its theme parks, movies, TV shows and retail products. The ABC television movie "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz" aired earlier this year.

The late Jim Henson's Muppets got their first regular, widespread exposure on PBS' "Sesame Street" starting in 1969.

The syndicated "The Muppet Show" aired from 1976-81 and was seen in more than 100 countries. The characters also briefly starred in "Muppets Tonight," which aired for four months in 1996 as part of ABC's primetime lineup.

Henson's puppets moved to the big screen in 1979 with "The Muppet Movie," followed by movies including "The Great Muppet Caper" and "The Muppets Take Manhattan.""

Right now I look like the kind of guy who lets dragged out of an overturned trailer, shirtless, his face a mass of blurred pixels, on Cops.

I've had maybe five hours of sleep, my apartment is nothing but boxes, I'm trying to keep rooms clean even as I still need to use them, and the movers show up in less than an hour.

Suffice to say, I'll be glad when I'm all set up in my new place. If only so I can fall onto the couch and take a nap.

oh, and go see the wallace & gromit movie. there's even a bonus short at the beginning featuring the penguins from "madagascar." i'm convinced that one of the 'characters" is based on my white chocolate doppelganger, which made the short that much more entertaining. :-)

Who wants to go?!?

Serenity now!

If you liked the TV show Firefly, the big-screen version, Serenity will not disappoint. Thrill, delight, and occasionally horrify (Joss Whedon is a cruel, cruel man), but not disappoint.

If you never saw the TV show, the movie will be a bit less satisfying and a bit harder to get into. Nonetheless, it's worth it -- funny characters, some genuinely creepy scares, spectacular effects and a few terrific action sequences.
