Go Cats, Part III!

And Cristelle Grier and Alexis Prousis just won the NCAA women's tennis doubles national championship! Two titles in two days! Three titles in two years! After three titles in 100 years. And the softball team's one of eight teams in the College World Series. We're ChickSport Capital, USA!

Go Cats, Part II!

My very-vivid-yet-very-strange fanboy dream where I was at Luke Donald's house (he drove a Toyota Tercel, had a batting cage in his backyard and Bob Saget was his dad, by the way) eating Jello-ish ice cream while following online NU losing in the women's lacrosse national championship game was wrong! We're the bestest ever! Again!

The amazing world of the future can bite me.

Strange and fascinating things are happening in the vicinty of my tonsils, making me glad I live in a world of Broad-Spectrum Antibiotics for Dummies packets. (Seriously, the doc gave me this idiot-proof package that does everything but provide big picture diagrams and say "NOT TAKING ALL OF THESE WILL LET THE BACTERIA KILL US ALL, YOU MORONS.") But I'm not absolutely bedridden, so I'm working from home over our VPN network.

This should be cool, right? I'm on a Mac, remotely operating a Windows computer in a building ten minutes' walk away, all through a window on my screen. Well, yes, but you have to add the words "as if mired in a vat of molasses" somewhere in that preceding sentence.

I'll say this for VPN -- it's a hell of an incentive not to stay home sick.

On an unrelated note, congratulations, Jim!

Stealing lacrosse thunder

I am moving to the greater Hilton Head Island metropolis in South Carolina in a few weeks. I've accepted a job to be the business writer for the local paper there. If I get a two-bedroom apartment, visitors are welcome. That is all.

Go Lady Wildcats!

Duke women's lacrosse to wear 'innocent' bands

"The women plan to wear sweatbands that say "innocent" when they play Northwestern in the Final Four on Friday in Boston, The Durham Herald-Sun reported Wednesday.."

"Boys Will be Boys ... or will they"?

Got a bible newsletter/proselytizer from a local Baptist church on my front door today. Main headline is "What Really Led To Terry Schiavo's Death?" to give you an idea of what we're dealing with.

But the best part is "Rearing Masculine Sons," which bemoans the gender-neutralizing society in which we live. This church wants Manly Men, and offers a Top 10 on how to make sure your son doesn't become one of them sissy-boys.

Among my favorites:

---From the earliest stages of life, don't dress your son in feminine or neutral clothes.

---Have your son play with masculine toys.

---Teach the child to be physically coordinated.

---Do not allow your son to become off-balance in his love for music.

And the best one... drumroll please...

---Teach your daughter to help her brother become a man.

Says Most People: "Ewwwwwwww."
Says Cletus The Slack-Jawed Yokel: "That's hot."

Bar-ry Gard-ner, er, I mean, Co-field (clap clap clapclapclap)

So we're all gonna get Barry Cofield Giants jerseys, right? Probable starting nose tackle next season for Big Blue!
